One of the tricky parts of rot repair is to figure out the extent of the problem. Unfortunately, there is no way to know how far the damage goes until you start removing layers. In this particular project, the rot affected not only the corner board but also the siding and some of the structural lumber. To fix it, we removed all the rotten layers, repaired the structural damage, and installed a drip cap to prevent moisture from going into the new joint. After that, we replaced the siding, the corner board, and primed and painted them to make it look like new.
