Your House Didn’t Shrink. Everyone Just Came Inside.
It’s November in Vermont. The patio furniture is put away, the windows are closed, and suddenly, everyone and everything is back inside.
The boots have returned to the entryway. The coats have multiplied. The dog has claimed the best spot in the living room, and somehow, the kitchen has become the gathering place, homework station, mailroom, and occasional obstacle course.
Funny how a house that felt perfectly spacious in July can feel a whole lot smaller by November.
Of course, the house hasn’t changed. But the way we’re living in it has.
And that’s when you start noticing things.
The entryway that really needs more storage. The kitchen where three people can’t seem to do three different things at once. The room nobody uses while everyone crowds into the same one. The basement that could be so much more than a place to store things you forgot you owned.
Most of us adapt. We move a chair, buy another storage bin, or remind everyone for the hundredth time to put their shoes away.
But what if the house could adapt instead?
A different layout, better storage, a more useful kitchen, or a finished space downstairs could change how your family lives every day, without necessarily changing the size of your home.
At Polli Construction, we’ve been helping Vermont homeowners rethink, remodel, and improve their homes since 1989. Sometimes the biggest improvement isn’t more square footage. It’s discovering what your existing square footage could be doing for you.
And with another Vermont winter just around the corner, it’s a pretty good time to start thinking about it.
Your house didn’t shrink. Maybe it’s just time to give it some new ideas.
